Premium High-Build Hardwax Oil for Floors, Furniture & Joinery

More body. More wax. More protection. Rolled or brushed on. A complete standalone finish, or the second half of the Sandhouse Buff & Roll™ System.

Overview

Sandhouse Signature | Extra Thicc & Waxy™ is our premium high-build hardwax oil, with a much higher solids and wax content than the Original. Designed to be applied by roller or brush, it builds a protective surface while still giving the appearance of a hardwax oil. It can be buffed if desired, but roller or brush is its natural home. Higher build, more body, greater wax content, increased protection and easier application over larger floor areas.

Aimed at professional floor finishers and homeowners wanting maximum protection with the look of a traditional hardwax oil. Available in Traditional and Subtle Bare. 1L and 2.5L.

Made in Yorkshire. Low VOC. Food-safe when fully cured. EN 71-3 Toy Safe certified.

Colour Guide

Traditional A classic warm hardwax oil that gently enriches the natural warmth and character of timber while maintaining a natural matte finish. Ideal for oak and most natural timber species.

Subtle Bare Contains a very subtle white pigment. Designed specifically for the Signature formulation to maintain pale Scandinavian finishes when rolled or brushed over Bare Naked or Snow White. Clear oils naturally carry a golden tone that can warm a pale floor, and that touch of white in Subtle Bare keeps the Scandi look exactly where you want it, while remaining virtually invisible.

Want the Colour Underneath? Pair It

Signature is a complete finish on its own. For pale and Scandinavian floors, pair it with Sandhouse Original Hardwax Oil as the Sandhouse Buff & Roll™ System: buff the Original Bare Naked or Snow White in for colour and depth, roll the Signature Subtle Bare over for maximum build and protection. For warm floors, buff Original Traditional and roll Signature Traditional. Find Original in our Hardwax Oil collection.

Application

Roll or brush

  1. Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, grease and previous coatings
  2. Apply a thin, even coat by roller or brush, working in the direction of the grain
  3. Allow to dry fully before applying a second coat
  4. Lightly abrade between coats with a fine abrasive (240 grit or equivalent) for best adhesion
  5. Apply a second coat and allow to cure fully before use

Signature can also be buffed in and then brushed if that's how you like to work.

Coverage

Approximately 20 to 25m² per litre, depending on timber porosity and application method.

Drying Times

Drying times are approximate and will vary depending on temperature, humidity and ventilation. Ideal application conditions are 15 to 25°C with good airflow.

Compatibility

Signature can be applied over Sandhouse Original on previously oiled surfaces that have been lightly abraded and cleaned. Not suitable for use over lacquered, varnished or wax-polished surfaces without full removal of the existing finish first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Signature be used on its own? Yes. Signature is a complete hardwax oil and requires no additional products. Apply two coats to bare or previously oiled timber for a durable, professional finish.

What makes Signature different from Original?

Signature has a much higher solids and wax content, applied by roller or brush for maximum build with the look of a hardwax oil. Original is a penetrating oil, buffed into the timber for a beautifully natural finish. Both are complete standalone finishes that achieve beautiful results in different ways.

Why is Subtle Bare only available in Signature?

Subtle Bare was developed specifically for the Signature formulation. Its subtle pigment counteracts the golden warming effect that a clear high-build oil can have on very pale finishes, making it the correct choice when applying Signature over Bare
